Even More Company Master Backstories

Ryedoc

A new forge world, Sagramon, was being established near the ghoul stars and had suddenly stopped all astropathic communication. A Mechanicum ship is sent to investigate. All that is heard back from them is their call for help, and screams of pain the morph into scrap code. Needing specialist help a distress call was sent out across that quadrant of the galaxy. The new forge world was to be building Imperial Knights for the newly established House Ordana, and those could not fall into the hands of the Great Enemy. A strike force of elements of the Imperial Navy, the 5th Company of the 134th Night Specters with tank and artillery support, a house of Imperial Knights from House Voghan, and the Angles of Vengeance strike cruiser Apostate’s Bane were formed. No mechanicum joined for fear of scrap code contamination after three translators were purged while recovering the distress call of the mechanicum ship.

The Apostate’s Bane was returning from battle and rearming when it received the distress call. Ryedoc was in command as Chaplain Iscador was incapacitated from his injuries suffered while quelling a minor uprising on a nearby world that had just been brought back into the Imperial fold. Coordinating with the other Imperial Leaders Ryedoc took command of the liberation of Sagramon. The Imperial Navy would provide orbital and air superiority and ground support, the 5th company of the 134th Night Specters would capture the outlying airfields, and lay siege to the main factory believed to be manufacturing Imperial Knights. House Voghan would provide support while seeking and destroying any Knights that have turned renegade. Ryedoc and his forces would infiltrate the main foundry and discover the whereabouts of the Magos Ellyn Cotant.

The arrival at Sagramon was quiet except for the scrap code being broadcast on all frequencies. It was odd it was not being sent astropathicly. This gave Rydoc the impression that there were loyalist still alive on Sagramon. The battle plan was unchanged other than to make contact with any remaining loyalist forces and coordinate their attacks to retake Sagramon from whatever blight it had. While the 134th Night Spectors and House Voghan made planetfall, Ryedoc and his Space Marines made their drop pod insertion. Ryedoc lead his team of Vengeful, equipped as breachers with shields and special weapons into the center of the main forge. While two Tactical Squads lead by Slate and Gideon were tasked with shutting off the communications array and the securing the main data cogitator. Devastator Squad Helo guarded the main entrance tasked with securing a landing zone for extraction and to use their missile launchers to destroy any infected mechanicum.

Once landed House Voghan reported that there were only infected mechanicum and no renegade knights. The 134th Night Specters were sieging the main factory finding sparse resistance and noting erratic behavior from the mechanicum forces encountered. The Imperial Fleet in orbit reported zero resistance. As the Angels of Vengeance reported in their status Helo reported a secure extraction point encountering minimal resistance, Gideon reported they had secured the main data cogitator and that it was unaffected by the scrap code, and Slate reported they had shut off the communications array stopping the broadcast of infectious scrap code. With Slate’s mission done the mechanicum forces staggered, stopped, and sent out a signal for restart.

Rydoc then received word over his Vox link from High Magos Ellyn Cotant. She was trapped inside her chambers, yet she had killed the traitor. A young Magos Explorator Davin had come across a warp anomaly and was infected with scrap code from the ship that came through. The ship had crashed on one of Sagramon’s three moons, and Davin was brought back to Sagramon for care when the code took over completely. Infecting the forge with scrap code High Magos Ellyn Cotant activated emergency quarantine procedures. The Imperial Knights of House Ordana were safe. The rest of her forces were infected, and what was left was signaling to be restored.

With the threat over Rydoc let High Magos Ellyn Cotant out of her chambers, using his power fist, and brought her to the communication array. It was there she was able to restore order of her forces. With the crisis over, and order restored Rydoc and the Imperial forces set to leave. Establishing strong ties between Knight houses Ordana and Voghan, the Imperial Guard, and the Angels of Vengeance.

Rydoc carries with him the ancient bolt pistol 'Quietus' and the artisan power fist 'Hand of Retribution'.

Angels of Vengeance - A Dark Imperium

A Dark Imperium

With the new Dark Angels codex, and the continuation of the lore in 40K has forced me to change the lore I was writing for my Angels of Vengeance. The stories of the past still adorn the Chapter's history. Yet now I am forced to reorganize the army to fit 8th edition. At first with the Indexes I wasn't too happy, yet knowing the Codex was soon to be released (and with life happening) I bided my time and waited. It paid off. I enjoyed the project of reorganizing the Chapter, and it allowed me the chance to do something I had never done. Build full companies of Space Marines.

Reorganization

It is no secret looking at the previous posts that I have A LOT of HQ units. With 8th edition that is not so much a problem was it was in earlier editions. Also, I have no need to create lore for why I have so many HQ models. I find it a bit humorous that the solution I had to explain why is somewhat the reason given to the codex. A Chapter Council. This is where I put any Master I normally do not use in game.

What I ended up doing:
  • Chapter Command
    • Chapter Council (1 Grand Master & 7 Masters)
  • Chapter Ancient
  • Interrogator-Chaplains (4 in total)
  • Dreadnoughts (5 in total)
  • Venerable Dreadnought (Tetricus)
  • Contemprot Dreadnoughts

3rd Company, 4th Company, 5th Company, & 10th Company

The following changes were made to keep the Chapter Council at a decent number.
  • 2 Masters: One to command, the other to reenforce.
  • 3rd Company & 10th Company have 2 Chaplains. One Interrogator, the other not. A watchful eye on them by the Interrogator-Chaplain. Mainly to help guide them to the truth faster.
The rest follows standard Company Organization.

As for the reorganization some of the units I have still use Index entries (Sternguard & Vanguard Squads mostly) and fall under the command of the Chapter itself, rather than the 1st Company or their own Company. I have yet to decide if I want to break them up into Company Veteran Squads, as I already have 3.

Primaris

With the introduction and revelation of the Cicatrix Maledictum the Angels of Vengeance on the opposite side of it and cut off from the light of the Astronomicon. The Indominus Crusade has also given rise to some direly needed reinforcements.

The Angels of Vengeance have been tested in extremes to keep back the forces of Chaos and Xenos. Entire Companies have been lost to battle. Only now to be reinforced by Primaris Marines. While not unwelcome, they still need to prove themselves in battle. The day has yet to come where one will find themselves worthy of being inducted into the Inner Circle.

Merit

As I reorganized the Chapter I went back over in my mind who the Angels of Vengeance are, and why they shun laurels. I was left with an interesting problem while going through my army again, How do you explain the adornments on the armor of the marines I have? A simple solution presented itself as I sat there working on new models to add to the army.

Merit.

It was the only solution I could find that didn't break the lore or have me find an ex machina to go around it. The only reason they have those adornments is because they were earned. This is not to say that other adornments or laurels they could wear haven't been. These were given to them. The Marines that earned them must wear them.

Inventory and Upkeep

As I add new models I've utilized more tools and products at my disposal. I will soon find out if Shapeways is worth it. I ordered some uniques maces, and chapter symbols for shoulder pads and vehicles. Also, I will be applying these to models that could use some upkeep. New company markings will be needed, Chapter symbols added, highlights touched up, and armor joints repainted. Plus anything else I find that could be done.

That is it for now. I'll post more as I have more to write. Thanks.

Company Masters Backstories

With my army growing and having reached 12 Company Masters I felt the need to expand upon how they were able to gain that position. Below are the first 8 stories.

Vander

Company Master Vander is currently the senior Company Master and is in command of the Angels of Vengeance Chapter. Gaining this position is rare for a Space Marine of his temperament as he prefers close quarters fighting followed by ripping your enemies apart in close combat. His reasoning is so that your enemies will know who came to reap vengeance upon them. While this is his prefered method of fighting Vander has shown his mastery of other strategies and fighting styles.

Vander earned his place and rank after fighting and leading numerous campaigns and battles. More than a few of which have seen the chapters numbers decimated forcing the chapter to stall its engagement until enough recruits could refill the ranks of the lost battle brothers. His appointment to this position came after he defeated an Ork Waaagh! lead by the Warboss Clakk the Clamper as he invaded the nearby mining sector of MS-485. While not very populated only one main city, the capital of Durth, held most of the PDF forces and Imperial Citizens. The whole sector was extremely rich in raw minerals. This made it a tempting target for Clakk as he aimed to use those resources to build warmachines to continue his Waaah!. Yet to gain the favor of his followers he needed to prove himself in battle.

Rather than take the mining colonies in the sector Clakk attacked the main planet first. Trying to destroy whatever resistance the Imperium had against him in the sector. After establishing a beachead on the main planet Clakk made for Durth. Knowing the Orks would be broken and easier to defeat Vander made a daring drop pod and thunderhawk strike upon the Waagh! as it was en-route to the main planets Hive City. With a new enemy to fight this stalled the Orks long enough to be shelled by the local PDFs artillery. Wanting a quick end to the infestation of Orks Vander and his Assault Squad dropped out of their thunderhawk and straight for Warboss Clakk. In the ensuing close combat Vander defeated Clakk in single combat, ripping his body apart in front of his Waaagh! and presenting his head as a symbol of his victory. With the Waaagh!'s leader dead the orks were quickly routed. Unable to escaped the entire Waaagh! was destroyed, and the planet cleansed of their taint.

Vander carries an artisan pair of ancient lightning claws 'The Claws of the Lion', and wears the relic the 'Shroud of Heroes'.

Charon

Having the same temperament as Company Master Vander Charon enjoys taking the fight to the enemy face to face. Out of all of the battle brothers in the chapter Charon was the least likely to be considered for the rank of Company Master. Not because he has not earned this position, more he shuns laurels and promotions unless thrust upon him. Delivering the enemies of the Emperor to justice is all that matters to him.

The battle that saw all this change was the one that saw the death of former senior Company Master Beld. While the campaign against the Eldar waged on Asylus Beld had the opportunity to take the fight to the enemy, and removed their leadership. It was Company Master Beld's hope that this would end the conflict and drive the Eldar from Asylus. He was correct yet would not see the day come to pass. In assaulting the Eldar Seer's Council Beld was struck down by their Farseer and his witchblade. Enraged Charon charged the Farseer slaying 3 of the warlocks of the council before engaging in close combat with the Farseer.

Once the Farseer was dead rather than run the Eldar fought on. This would prove to be their undoing as Charon and the remaining Angels of Vengeance of this strike force assaulted their ranks. Forgoing ranged weapons the Angels of Vengeance ripped the remaining Eldar apart in close combat. When the battle was over the Angles of Vengeance had won, and the campaign against the Eldar on Asylus came to an end.

Charon carries an artisan pair of ancient lightning claws 'The Teeth of the Lion'.

Mandeus

The Dark Eldar are a deceitful foe, yet that was who Mandeus defeated to earn him the rank of Company Master. The planet of Formund was targeted by a Dark Eldar slave raid. Being the tip of the spear Mandeus did a daring high altitude insertion of his Assault Squad. Once on the ground he relayed back coordinates for the remainder of the company to be able to insert via Drop Pods and Thunderhawks. The Dark Eldar Archon of the Cabal of Three Eyes attempted to flee with whatever slaves he was able to capture as the Angles of Vengeance arrived. Cutting off the Archon's escape Mandeus beheaded him and destroyed most of the Dark Eldar forces leaving them with no Imperial Citizens to return with as slaves.

Mandeus carries with him the relic 'Monster Slayer of Caliban'.

Artemius

With a distress signal from Desperation Artemius responded. The Tau had decided to test the strength of this sector to see if it would be ripe for conquest. Only after the battle did the Angels of Vengeance learn that the Tau thought that Desperation was a completely different planet, and that they had been caught in a warp storm sending them far off course. No matter to Artemius who realized the best way to defeat the Tau was to take away their mobility. Destroying their only tanks and APCs, and with no reinforcements coming they were unable to replenish their vehicles, the Tau were forced to make a last stand. Before they were able to make a solid firebase Artemius called down artillery strikes from the local PDF forces and ships in orbit. With the Tau in disarray Artemius lead the charge and struck down the Tau leadership, Commander Stillwater.

Artemius carries with him the artisan power sword 'Oath Keeper'

Balthasar

Having only recently taken command of his company, Balthasar was promoted to his rank as a Deathwing Sergeant to succeed Company Master Zadakiel after his death at the hands of the Crimson Slaughter. His lifetime of servitude to the Deathwing has honed him inot a crafty and cunning tactician. He holds a great personal anger against the Crimson Slaughter for murdering his mentor.

Balthasar carries the relic 'Lion's Roar'.

Greyston

Earning his rank by his actions against a Chaos Space Marine Pirate raid upon the Chapter's Fortress Monastery on Vengeance during a series of severe warp storms. Only a third of the Chaos forces were able to make planet fall, the rest being shot out of the sky and destroyed. The Chaos fleet was soon destroyed by Retribution Citadel and other orbital defenses. Sensing that the raid was not going well the Chaos Gods used their powers to teleport the chosen survivors back into the Eye of Terror. Sadly Greyston and his Tactical Squad were sucked into the warp with them. 458 years later during the 13th Black Crusade the Angels of Vengeance were notified that Greyston was alive, and as well as his squad. A space hulk had made transition from the warp, yet oddly had signaled for aid. When the Dark Angels arrived to assist they were astonished to find Greyston, his squad, and another Battle Brother thought lost years ago.

Upon returning to the chapter Greyston and the survivors were interrogated by the Chapters and Dark Angels Librarians and Interrogator-Chaplains. Upon finding no taint of chaos within them, and a stern resolve in Greyston, the Dark Angels returned them to their chapter.

Greyston carries the artisan Thunder Hammer 'Hammer of Vengeance' and the relic 'The Eye of the Unseen'.

Odwin

In the Thramus sector was where Odwin earned his rank of Company Master. Facing off against a Necron Scouting fleet probing the sector for any signs of life to destroy. After succeeding in destroying all of the Necron scout ships the Necrons changed tactics and sent a large force to assault the main planet of Thramus itself. Engaging with the Necrons Odwin noticed that something was odd about their tactics and behavior. It seemed as if this force was not there to outright challenge the forces of the Imperium, but to gauge their defenses and report back.

Odwin realizing that was most likely the case devised a strategy to encircle and destroy the Necron forces before they were able to send word back of the size of the Imperial forces. With the Necron's scouting attempt foiled, they retreated from the sector. It is only a matter of time before they will return.

Odwin carries with him the relic 'Foe-Smiter'.

Dominus

Company Master Dominus was found by, the now known Company Master, Greyston upon a Space Hulk upon its transition from the warp by the Dark Angels. 324 years ago Dominu was in command of then a squad of Company Veterans, or Vengeful as they are known. A distress call was made for aid by a nearby planetary governor that an unknown space hulk, a Retribution Class Battleship and others, had spewed forth from the warp at the edge of their system. Dominus was tasked to investigate. Since there were no terminators or terminator armor aboard his strike cruiser, the Divine Reason, at the time it was a simple recon mission. Get in, scout the area, and if possible shut off the warp engines. Dominus was supposed to withdraw at the first sign of danger as reinforcements were coming.

Upon boarding via a boarding torpedo Dominus and his squad scouted the ship finding nothing but the bodies of the dead crew. Most died due to warp exposure. Finding no enemies or lifesigns of any kind throughout the ship, they made quick work to the warp engines. Communications were still good, and now with no fear of the ship making a jump into the warp Dominus decided to press his luck. Voxing back to the Divine Reason Dominus updated them with their status. The plasma reactors needed stabilizing, the main cogitator was nearby and could be accessed, and the Astropath chamber could be investigated to see what had happened. First the plasma reactors were stabilized. With power now back to the ship, and no longer sporadic, Dominus and squad made way for the main cogitator. Using a requisitioned cogitator core Dominus began the download. While accessing the main cogitator Dominus learned that this Retribution Class Battleship was the Lighting's Spear thought to had been lost centuries ago battling a renegade Chaos Space Marine Chapter The Blighted. Realizing that retrieving the rest of the data from the cogitator would take time Dominus sent the rest of his squad to investigate the Astropath Chamber. His task done he placed the cogitator core into its protective container and voxed his squad.

Upon not hearing from his squad at the completion of his task he went to investigate. In the Astropath chamber he found his brothers slain at the hand of xenos. The Astropath had sacrificed herself to lock them in the chamber with her. Dominus' squad did not go down quietly and the chamber was littered with the corpses of numerous Geanstealers. Dominus requested instructions from the Divine Reason, yet heard nothing but static in reply. Making way for the boarding torpedo Dominus slayed what Geanstealers got in his path. Vox communication with the Divine Reason was sketchy the closer he made to the boarding torpedo. Something was jamming them. As Dominus made way down the last corridor to his boarding torpedo he saw something sinister. A Demon from the Warp had teleported in front of him blocking his path. Using the bodies of the crew as vessels the Demon teleported from one to the other. There were too many for Dominus to handle alone and get a clear path to the boarding torpedo.

The Divine Reason voxed over in broken chunks that the warp engines had activated and a translation into the warp was minutes away. Realizing that he would not make it to the torpedo Dominus made way for the bridge. With power restored he needed the gellar field up before the transition into the warp. While enroute he ran through the rescue deck. Finding a lifeboat that he could not hope to fit in for it was made for Imperial Navy crew and not for Astartes, he threw the cogitator core in the seat, set it for immediate launch, and pressed the activation rune. "At least the data from the ships cogitator would make it off the ship", Dominus thought. With vox communication still choppy Dominus gave a status report. The Divine Reason acknowledged about the cogitator core, and if he could get to the bridge they might be able to teleport him out.

Reaching the bridge Dominus found the controls for the gellar field and warp engines. Upon communication with the Divine Reason Dominus knew that they would not be able to get him off the ship in time. He voxed over his last orders and status, and activated the gellar field before the translation into the warp. It would be another 120 years until he was found by Greyston. With the help of Greyston and his squad, Dominus was able to return the Lightning's Spear to real space, banish the demon back into the warp, and regain contact with their chapter. They were rescued within a day, however, it was not as much a rescue as a retrieval for all other enemies aboard the space hulk had been slain. After debriefing and finding no corruption or taint upon Dominus he was returned to the Angels of Vengeance. The Interrogator-Chaplains and Librarians of the Dark Angels ensured it was recorded his resistance to Chaos and purity of faith in the Emperor.

Dominus carries with him the relic the 'Mace of Redemption'.

Angels of Vengeance Chapter & History

Since I have been collecting my Angels of Vengeance for roughly 16 years I have quite a few HQ models. I just really like the HQ models, and enjoy making them and painting them. Due to this I have A LOT of HQ units, and recently do all I can to keep from adding to them as they will probably never see a game. Yet since the Angels of Vengeance have no real "fluff" I am free to make it up myself, and to create the backstories to Characters that I wish. I have done this and figured I would post it here.

Angels of Vengeance

The chapter is located in the Ultima Segmentum. Normal general duties have them patrol from the Ghoul Stars to the Eastern Fringe looking for pirates and defending from the enemies of the Imperium.  Being a fleet based chapter this is relatively easy, as the entire chapters fleet rivals that of most large Imperial Fleets. However, it is rarely all in one place.

Chapter Organization

Following their parent legion the Angels of Vengeance are organized the same way. Yet there are a few differences due to the over zealous nature and unwillingness to retreat no matter the odds. The chapter is always in need of new recruits because of this, and has almost been reduced in numbers being unable to fight on more than one occasion. This has lead to the scout company being larger than most chapters, a large number of Company Veterans, otherwise known unofficially as 'The Vengeful' to the rest of the chapter, who yet to be initiated into the Deathwing, and a large number of Company Masters. This instilled the need for a Council of Company Masters.

Differing from normal organization from both the Dark Angels and the Codex Astartes the Angels of Vengeance have a Council of Company Masters. Since the chapter finds itself with an abundance of seasoned veterans able to lead a full chapter, yet rather than keep them reduced to duties that do not allow them to grow the Council was created. Currently there are twelve Company Masters. The most senior, Company Master Vander, is in command. When decisions are needed that affect the entire Chapter are discussed among the Council. This way the best course of action can be taken, and multiple viewpoints can be expressed. Although Vander does have the final say on what will be done.

While this does cause some tension in the upper ranks it does not strain relations between the Company Masters. There have been several instances where a Company Master has expressed concern over a course of action, and in doing so the needed precautions were taken. When those concerns manifested on the battlefield the foresight of the Council was able to ensure victory with minimal losses, and the concern expressed was given due credit. This has made for an oddly open working relationship between Company Masters not seen in most chapters of Space Marines. Yet the success of this Council of Company Masters cannot be doubted.

Another tradition of the chapter is the replacement of a Space Marine's name with a title they have earned. Either due to an honor won in a great battle, a great skill with a weapon, or other notable event or talent the Marine might have. This is a throwback to a knightly tradition from the old days of Caliban. One example of this is Tactical Veteran Sergeant Phoenix who has been thought dead many times only to rise from the ashes of his enemies.

Chapter Monasteries

The main Chapter Monastery is a Dark Age of Technology Star fortress, the Retribution Citadel, located over the world Vengeance. Being fleet based they do not recruit from just one world, yet from a series of worlds in the Ultima Segmentum which they patrol. Learning from past encounters the Angels of Vengeance have fortified the main worlds, and systems, they recruit from with Chapter Monasteries that would rival other chapters main Chapter Monastery. While other systems they patrol have smaller fortresses.

Recruitment Worlds

The Angels of Vengeance recruitment worlds are Vengeance, Formund, Asylus, & Desperation.

Vengeance is their main recruitment world and boasts several hive cities. Local affairs are left to the Imperial Governor, and appointed houses. Recruitment comes from volunteers who are deemed worthy, and hive gangers who are persuaded to join. Vengeance is unique as it boasts a Chapter Monastery on the planet's surface as well as having the Starfort in orbit. This is a main warp nexus so space travel through this sector is nearly mandatory, as is its strategic value to the Imperium.

Formund is an odd choice for a main recruitment world. Similar to Caliban as it is also a forest death world. It lacks the warp beasts that Caliban had, yet still has formidable monsters. Some of the best leaders and psykers have been recruited from Formund.

Asylus is a Forge World. While under the control of the Mechanicum the local population still is recruited from. In M33 this Forge World came under attack from Chaos, pirates, and xenos. Unable to hold off the multiple threats themselves, and be allowed to rebuild, the Mechanicum brokered a deal with the Angels of Vengeance. If they offered protection when needed they would allow them recruitment from their world and would supply them with all they would need. Be it armor, weapons, vehicles, or ships. This has lead to a very beneficial relationship. The Titan houses of this Forge World are ready, willing, and eager to fight alongside the Angels of Vengeance. This has lead to some great victories, and discoveries, that other Magos Dominus envy.

Desperation is a desert world and is aptly named. The local population live a rough, often brutal and short life. Yet this makes for some of the hardiest warriors. Several Chaplains can trace their recruitment back to this world.

Notable Battles

In M38 the chapter was forced to gather at full strength to fight off a large Eldar assault on their recruitment world of Asylus. It is unknown why the Eldar assaulted the planet, yet one thing is for certain the Eldar forces were all but annihilated. The defensive campaign of Asylus took three years. It reduced the 3rd Company to less than half strength, and the chapter was reduced to 64% fighting strength at the end of the campaign. Recruit replacements for the 3rd Company were ready at the end of the campaign and were trained en-route while on the 3rd Company Battle Barge Retribution.

It was in this battle that the chapter suffered a significant loss. That of Company Master Beld, Head Company Master of the Angels of Vengeance. His personal banner and his body were taken to the Hall of Honor on Vengeance. Where his body is entombed under his personal banner.

More will be added as time permits.

Hobby Progress - Scout Squads, Company Master, and Deathwing Progress

As always life is getting in the way of my being able to hobby. 12+ hour days and 18 units is a pain, yet if I want to keep hobbying later I need to do this now. So once that is over with hopefully I will be able to update more. Until then sporadic updates.

YAY! /s

This weekend I got bit by the hobby bug hard. I needed to get some stuff done and I needed to ensure I was getting some sort of progress taken care of. I've bought a lot more for my armies and unless it is Forge World I think my collections are complete. I traded and sold my Eldar army for a Necron army. Not only do I like how they play better, yet I will actually be able to paint them. If this turns out to be incorrect I can always just sell them to someone who wants them. For now I will keep them as a future project.

Scout Squads

Going through my bitz I was able to find that I had a couple of scout squads from the scouts that go to the Land Speeder Storms. They do look a bit odd due to how they are posed, but I think I was able to get around that with some creative basing.

Scout Squad Marcian

Scout Squad Andre

Company Master

In a recent trade on r/miniswap I was able to acquire a webstore limited edition Space Marine Sergeant with Power Fist from 2008. I missed my chance at getting one, and with some luck, was able to find one for sale.

I've recently painted up this model. First time attempting highlighting, and I think it turned out well. After getting some C&C about what I can improve I'll see what I can do before sealing and basing him. This model will now be, yet another, Company Master in my Angels of Vengeance army. Which I can't seem to stop finding things to add to it.

Deathwing

As for the Deathwing my mass troop painting attempt seems to have failed. I do not seem to have the attention or discipline to paint 20 Deathwing Terminators at once. I do, however, have the attention and discipline to paint 10 Deathwing Terminators at once. With only 10 more left to paint before a re-priming of another 10 Deathwing Terminators my infantry force should be mostly complete. I think I will paint one of the new dreadnoughts I got for the army, or the Land Raider Crusader, between these tasks. Mainly so I don't get bored.

I've also made new and more efficient To - Do lists in Excel for all of my armies. As well as painting guides. As I get the chance I will be hobbying and posting. Until next time.

Lots of Additions

End of the month update!

As usual college is sucking up a lot of my time. Yet I still need time to relax and do something for me. That is where 40K comes in. As I have stated previously I have been trying to sell my Eldar army as I realized I would never get to it and it deserved to go to a good home. Yet I have over half of it still, and might just dump it all on eBay to get whatever I can for it. Also I have found a wonderful subreddit called r/miniswap and you can find some surprisingly good deals there. It is how I found myself getting additions to the armies I already have. But onto the progress of the armies!

Angels of Vengeance

I thought I was done. I thought I couldn't get any more marines for this army. I thought there wasn't a deal I could see myself accepting that would do that. I was wrong! In going on r/miniswap I found a lot of good deals. Sometimes it was for my Eldar, and other times it was for a trade. Well in doing this whole process I went through some boxes I haven't gone through in years and found a bunch of models I didn't need. In a trade for them I got

  • 1 Tactical Squad (Dark Vengeance). All I had to add was 3 Space Marines and a plasma gun Marine and it was full.
  • 1 Company Master (Dark Vengeance). He was missing his head so I made him a new one with my bitz box. Gives him a nice distinction to his counterpart.
  • 1 Librarian (Dark Vengeance). I am going to have to paint him differently, or try to have him be a twin. Maybe pull off that "Little Horus" joke if possible.
  • 1 Limited Edition Powerfist Sergeant. This guy is a web exclusive from 2008. Liked him, wanted him, and bought him. Not sure where I'll put him, but I'll figure that out later.
  • 1 Devastator Squad Barden. I thought I was just going to do a 10 man Devastator Squad last post. Then I realized there are not bolter guys in there, just the sergeant. Thinking about it I just when "fuck it" and decided the army should have some Grav weapons in it since there are none yet. Thus Grav-cannon Devastator Squad Barden was born!
I still need to paint everything, yet outside of the Devastators everything is assembled and ready to be painted.

Deathwing

Surprisingly this army also got additions to it. Some were on order and had arrived later this month, others were just surprises. Much like the 2 five man Scout Squads I was able to cobble together from my bitz box from all of what was left over from my trade for painting my friends army. He had a couple of Land Speeder Storms and never filled them with the scouts riding inside. So I punched them out and put them together. They look a little weird, but with the proper placement of some bitz, plastic tube, and balsa wood they look decent enough.

  • 3 Ravenwing Bikes w/ Plasma Gun (Dark Vengeance)
  • 2 Scout Teams (Five man) w/ Heavy Bolter
  • 1 Forge World Dark Angles Venerable Dreadnought
  • 1 Forge World MKIV Venerable Dreadnought
I am still chipping away at the painting that is needed to be done here with this army. Still lots to paint here. Yet until I get more primer I am stuck just finishing painting the models in the army that do not have bone colored armor. I'll fix that hopefully before the end of March.

Imperial Guard

So I found a deal that was too good to pass up. A lot of 100+ Guardsmen for a very good price. I didn't think I wanted more guardsmen. I guess I was wrong. Anyways they and a few other deals were bought. I filled out the bitz upgrades already and hopefully will soon be moving forward with this army after the Deathwing. Some reorganization of my Platoon Squads happened, but otherwise it was just a new model here, and a new model there, and now I have another finished squad. The changes and additions are as follows.

Additions/Reorganization:
  • Company Command Squad (Alpha) replace regular Guardsmen w/ Medipack Guardsmen
  • Company Command Squad (Beta) Replace current Commander model with new Commander model (Metal Cadian Commander). Add Guardsmen w/ Medipack, kit bashed Master of Fleet, and metal Voxcaster as Master of Ordnance.
  • Platoon Command Squad (Alpha & Beta) 2 Guardsmen 1 w/ Heavy Flamer
  • 2 new Platoon Squads (Alpha & Beta) w/ Sergeant w/ Melta Bombs, Flamer and Autocannon.
  • Platoon Command Squad (Charlie). Officer and 4 Guardsmen w/ Plasma Rifles.
  • 5 Platoon Squads (Charlie) Sergeant w/ Melta Bombs, & Plasma Gun.
  • 1 Special Weapons Squad w/ 3 Demo Charges
  • 3 Special Weapons Squad w/ Sniper Rifles
  • 1 Conscripts Squad w/ 20 Guardsmen

As you can see I added a lot of Guardsmen to the army. I have no idea how long this is going to take to paint. All I know is that if I stick to the plan I have now they might not be all that detailed, but they will be tabletop ready and good to go soon. Everything bitz wise needed to make these squads function has been ordered and if it is not here yet it will be soon.

Everything Else

So as you can see I have my work cut out for me. Yet if I alternate painting things to what I'd like to paint or painting something different this way I don't get burned out. I am now deciding on what is next to buy from KR Multicase as they are amazing. I have more storage for my Deathwing than I know what to do with! I over estimated so I'll have to figure something out. I also got a GW Project box to help store my supplies and it is working better than I thought it would. I now just need to get to work on these models and hopefully with no new additions I'll be having a completely painted army (or two!) by the end of the year. Again. I hope.
